Gippsland Vehicle Collection Cruise
May 11th 2013
It was a sunny mid autumn morning when the six of us headed out from Berwick bound for "The Maffra Shed". After a quick stop at Yarragon we soon left the highway in search for more interesting country driving roads. As is often the case, the reality was somewhat different from the expectation ........ the scenic route lead us into heavy fog and at times it was a struggle to see much further that the bonnet. The expected fast flowing strip of bitumen was reduced to a misty, slippery and unpredictable concern...... there was even a section where the road became dirt...... much to Steve's absolute horror!!
However, as the miles rolled by conditions gradually improved and it was possible to really get into the drive and appreciate the countryside.......itís always been about the 'drive' for me....there doesn't seem to be much point otherwise. It was a real bonus that Judi and Bruce drove from Paynesville to spend a few hours with us.....both are past Presidents of 'Lions Pride" and without their efforts in the early days I doubt the club would be where it is today.
If you haven't discovered "The Gippsland Vehicle Collection" check out their excellent website. In conjunction with their regular display they have special exhibitions change several times a year..... " Cars of The Sixties" finishes in a few weeks and will be replaced by "Continental Vehicles" from early July. There is also an excellent tribute to the late great Peter Brock which features several of his cars including the Goodwood 48/215.
I'm sure "Lions Pride" will be heading down that way again to enjoy what is a fabulous venue and an equally great drive.....
